MILS plates 101
What is a MILS plate?
A LEGO MILS (Modular Integrated Landscaping System) plate is a reinforced, standardized building base designed to replace thin, flexible baseplates, providing rigidity and depth for dioramas and cities. Usually measuring 32x32 studs, they consist of a baseplate layered with bricks and plates, often using Technic bricks for secure connections between modules.
The MILS system has proven itself to be a relatively simple system that provides many benefits when creating builds for expo builds:
- it's a strong foundation for your build that makes it less likely to break apart in transit
- it's built mostly out of cheap and common parts
- building from a common standard is an essential start for building modules to be part of a collab, or just to let you swap your own modules
